Biography
Originally from Texas, Dr. Katherine C. Bartush graduated Summa Cum Laude as a Dean’s Scholar from Southern Methodist University with a degree in Finance and with a Chemistry minor while playing on the university soccer team.
She received her medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. There, she graduated at the top of her class with Alpha Omega Alpha honors and was selected for the Dr. Charles A. Rockwood Award for Student Excellence in Orthopedics. She completed her orthopedic surgery residency at UTHSCSA, where she won awards for research. For subspecialty training in Sports Medicine, she completed an additional fellowship at the world-renowned American Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham, Alabama, with Andrews Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Center. While there, she was a team physician for Troy University and the Birmingham-Barrons baseball team. She then completed a second fellowship in foot and ankle surgery at The Steadman Clinic with Dr. Thomas O. Clanton in Vail, Colorado, and traveled internationally with the US Olympic Ski and Snowboard Team as a team physician.
She focuses on preserving patients’ knees, shoulders, elbows, hips, and ankles at the Alliance and Bedford locations.
Throughout her training, she has earned awards for excellence in orthopedics and research. She has been published in peer-reviewed journals, written surgical technique articles, and performed clinical research. She is also a member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine and the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society. She enjoys skiing, camping, tennis, and spending time with her Newfoundland dog.

First visit was a week after I had actually broken my leg, I thought I had just sprained my ankle. Dr Bartush immediately looked at my X-rays and sent me for an MRI. I had actually done a lot of damage she scheduled surgery and took care of an old break in my ankle I didn’t know I had and fixed my fibula with the plate. and screws! Dr Bartush is amazing. My knee locked up and I needed surgery fast. But I also need it right. The pre-op discussions gave me full info ahead of surgery, including that my meniscus tear was large and the nationwide percentage of being a good candidate for repair vs removal/cleanup was only 14%. So I knew to have realistic expectations but also asked for the repair rather than removal if she thought it could be repaired. It was an answered prayer to wake up and hear she had repaired it and all was good. All post op has tracked great, ahead of expectations. Most of all, Dr Bartush is kind, answers all my questions, and whatever next step or concern I’m wondering about has a great answer for that. She’s laser sharp. I have more surgery experiences than anyone should, and from experience she gets my absolute recommendation and thanks. I recently had knee surgery, ( Torn meniscus) the surgery went pretty smooth, thanks to Dr Bartush. No more knee pain! I wish I had done this sooner. Extremely good! After seeing Dr. Bartush, she explained all my options. I decided on surgery since I was so tired of hurting. I started worrying about how long I would have to be off my foot that I canceled my surgery. I then scheduled another appointment to ask more questions. Dr.Bartush is one of the best doctors I have been blessed to come in contact with. With an injury to my ankle she was quick to diagnose me and get me into surgery quickly. Very professional. Did a thorough assessment of my left Achilles. More than the previous ortho I saw. Previous ortho wanted to go straight to surgery but she, after a more thorough investigation, felt that I may not need surgery. We discussed the impacts either way, but ultimately know it comes down to the MRI. Dr. Bartush, M.D. did a fantastic job navigating me through the diagnosis and recovery from my torn labrum in my hip. She took the time to diagnose, as I thought I had a sports hernia, the issue, treat it, and recommend the right PT group for my rehab. She has a great manner towards her patients and takes the time to listen, explain in non physician speak, and does it all with a smile.
